Clayton Byrd Goes Underground by Rita Williams-Garcia

Reviewed by Jane Oliver-Purton (Library Staff)

Rita Williams Garcia has done it again! She’s written an exquisite story to add to her award winning booklist. Clayton Byrd plays the harmonica, the “blues harp” and wants more than anything to be one of the Bluesmen like his grandfather, Cool Papa Byrd. His mother, though, has other ideas, and refuses to allow him to play the blues anymore. When something terrible happens, Clayton’s solution is to take matters into his own hands and do what he needs to do. This is an edge-of-your-seat story, and a great one.
