Twelve year old Clara, mourning the recent death of her sister, Lola, finds this note in the pocket of a purse she has picked up in a shopping mall in Illinois. Clara’s sister was adopted from China, and Clara has been there with her sister and parents, so the thought of these children held against their will upsets her. Threads is the story of what Clara does to try and help a girl she’s never met a half a world away, and what Yuming does to improve her odds. We get to read each girl’s adventure in alternating chapters, and you will be swept away by the story. Movingly written, Amy Polonsky gives us a story of two lives tied by one brave act.
