Having been recommended Martha Beck by my favorite author, Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love), I eagerly read Martha’s book regarding her experience in the Mormon Church. Having originally thought that this was merely about her experience leaving the religion, I quickly realized it focused on so much more. Her tumultuous, fraught, and ultimately tragic relationship with her father, an important man in the Church, takes center stage. She also goes through a complete transformation of faith, realizing her place in the cosmic universe as a wife, mother, and being of light but not, importantly, as a member of the Mormon Church. Riveting and engrossing. I look forward to reading her other offerings.
