Flashlight by Liz Boyd

Reviewed by Jane Oliver-Purton (Library Staff)

This wordless picture book follows a boy with a flashlight investigating his outdoor environment at night. He encounters woodland creatures as well as ordinary parts of his own back yard, all illuminated in the thin beam of his flashlight. There are small cutouts throughout the book highlighting small scenes on the previous pages. Flashlight is a lovely introduction to what a child may find in his or her own neighborhood, and an opportunity to discuss what’s outside in the dark. Grab a flashlight some moonless night and have your own adventure.
