The Farmer and the Clown by Marla Frazee

Farmer and Clown

Reviewed by Jane Oliver-Purton (Library Staff)

The Farmer and the Clown was one of my most favorite books published last year. With no words, it chronicles the story of a very young clown who falls from the circus train into a farmer’s field. The farmer takes him back to his house, and takes good care of him until the train pulls through again and the little clown is reunited with the other clowns. The farmer’s touching care of the little fellow, and the clown’s obvious delight in assisting the farmer in his day to day chores are clearly portrayed. Just when you begin to feel sorry for the farmer once his little friend has departed, the final page perks you up and you’re ready to imagine another adventure.
